Volunteer with Gettysburg CARES!
1. Overnight volunteers spend the night – indoors – and interact with guests.
2. Breakfast volunteers prepare and serve a nutritious breakfast for guests.
3. CARES runs a Resource Center for guests to shower or do laundry and homework and have a mail address. Volunteers spend a few hours a day orienting and helping guests.

WHY I VOLUNTEER
“ We volunteer with CARES in response to God’s call to love our neighbor as ourselves. We also serve in honor and in memory of family and friends who have experienced housing insecurity, mental health and addiction problems.”

“The reason I serve is because I like serving others and the less fortunate. Putting others before myself gives me unspeakable joy. “

“Though at the moment I don’t belong to a brick & mortar church, I strongly believe in Matthew 25: 35- 36: ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ I also volunteer at SCCAP, the AC Prison Society and I give blood!”

“I was raised to give back and have a heart for the homeless and less fortunate. It fulfills me to know that my small gesture of volunteering helps those who are in a bad place and need a warm place to sleep.”

“The way we see it, we’re on this big humanity team together. Sometimes we receive help, sometimes we offer help, and sometimes we’re doing both at the same time without realizing it.”
